Tripping and Riding on Walls at CLEARLINK
What do we do when we grow so much we need to start tearing down walls? Create permanent holes in them, of course. It’s a fast, inexpensive solution, which fits our culture perfectly.
“When discussing putting the whole in the wall in place of a door someone raised the objection that people would trip on the lower parts as the circle meets the ground. Someone else suggested we bring the edges down straight (which would have been safer, but would have thrown off the entire aesthetic). I decided we just needed to raise awareness of the peculiarities of walking through it, so I started the ‘Days Without A Trip’ count. We’ve yet to make it past 1, but I have high hopes for Q4.” -John Chatelain, Marketing
The marketing department at CLEARLINK is moving to new location in June. They’ve grown so big it’s time for them to create a mini CLEARLINK sub-culture of their own. The whole experience is starting to feel a bit like sending the kids off to college—we hope we’ve taught them all they need to know to preserve our organization’s culture in their new dorms. They’ve been asked to suggest ideas on how make our new space feel more marketer-ish. Kurt Michelson, one of our graphic designers, suggested that instead of having to avoid the wall problem like we do now, we become one with the walls and just start riding them. Great idea Kurt!
